May 2018, Utrecht – The Netherlands
In May, the brand new Rijkskantoor De Knoop on the Croeselaan in Utrecht was officially opened. A consortium of Strukton, Facilicom and Ballast Nedam developed the former ‘Knoop’ barracks under the name R Creators into a state-of-the-art and sustainable office building commissioned by the Central Government Real Estate Agency. The main building has a total gross area of 30,000 m2 and accommodates around 1,700 employees from various government departments.
Commissioned by R Creators, Elektro Internationaal developed and produced the general energy supply for the central part of the building. Starting with a main distribution panel in Schneider Electric’s Prisma P system. The design (in 4b) involved a considerable challenge. In the panel (with a total length of 6.7 meters) a large number of separately compartmentalized groups had to be included. In the end the distributor was delivered in 4 parts. The panel contains two incoming power supplies and two general groups.
Extremely hig short-circuit resistance
The main distributor has a total power of 2 x 2,000 Amp. An option has been provided to parallel the power supplies. To accomplish this the rail system has been set up for 70 kA. As a result, the panel has a very high short-circuit resistance for a P-board.
Five takeover constructions
In addition, the main board contains a number of preferential groups. To keep them running in the event of an emergency the coupling circuit breaker switches off and the generator takes over. Elektro Internationaal also connected generator controls. As if that were not enough, four more takeover constructions were made in the main distribution board to keep all preferential groups under voltage under all possible circumstances, with a mobile NSA as ultimate fallback
Staggered preferential groups
Elektro Internationaal also supplied 109 sub-distributors in Prisma G, of which 90 have a complex construction due to existing preferred groups. Preference has also been placed within these preferred groups. When these groups come to run on the generator, a staggering is applied in electrical load. So there are a number of groups that can be switched off in the event of too high a load. The main groups in the sub-distributors are kept under tension in the event of emergencies by a UPS system.
KWh measurement
All sections, groups and power supplies within the entire distribution system are also measured for KWh and connected to the user’s Building Management System.
